Job Description and Requirements:
HEALTH NURSE

Part Time Contract (4 days per week)
Maternity Leave replacement

September 15, 2008 to October 2009

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Health Nurse will be responsible for ensuring a healthy and safe learning environment for students.

POSITION SUMMARY

• Ensuring that student health requirements are met for admissions, clinical placements and related obligations fulfilled under the Public Hospitals Act including immunizations, mask fitting and VPC (Police check) requirements
• Assessing and treating student illness and injuries where appropriate and making referrals where necessary
• Promoting wellness, healthy lifestyles and attitudes in coordination with Human Resources
• Coordinating accommodation plans for students
• Ensuring all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements are met including WSIB
• Responsible for reporting and managing student WSIB claims
• Acting as a consultant to the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• A current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Two to three years experience in a similar setting
• Experience in workplace wellness programs, accommodation and WSIB claims
• A thorough knowledge of related legislation and regulations
• A certification in Occupational Health (preferred)
• Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, sensitivity to student demographic and ability to work independently
