Computer Programmer

Summary: Maintenance of existing software and development of new custom software applications for all offices in Area 3. Responsible for providing a weekly project status report, and provides analysis and program leadership to the rest of the staff, when needed. This position is highly customer-oriented with a great amount of interaction with the client. the Incumbent must be highly motivated and self-reliant. Converts data from specifications and statements of problems to computer code by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Consults with supervisor, systems analysts, other programmers, and end users to gather information about program intent, functions, features, data requirements, input requirements, output requirements, internal and external checks and controls, hardware and operating system environment, and interfaces with other systems.

Designs or writes solutions to existing applications using MUMPS technology; researches and provides solutions to better enhance the system with newer technology.

Conducts systems analysis and design; creates test transactions and runs tests to find errors and confirm program meets specifications.

Programs and analyzes code to find causes of errors and revises programs.

Installs software and trains users on upgrades and new applications/options.

Writes and maintains documentation of changes to computer code, programs, and specifications.

Designs and codes layouts for onscreen user interfaces, printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems.

Reviews user and technical documentation written by others to confirm consistency with program operations.

Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with programs.

Revises program for corrections, enhancements, or system environment changes and keeps current with technological advances.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
