Job Description
You will be a key member within the Data Development Unit and responsible for creating demography related products and services to clients. Responsibilities include: • Prepare micro-geography (block group and census tract) population and household estimates and projections for international emigration, legal and illegal immigration, race, ancestry, ethnicity, age, gender, language usage, group quarters, housing units, labor force, occupation, educational attainment, household income, and consumer spending. • Conduct research on consumer and lifestyle segmentation. • Create customer profiles using purchasing behavior and the customers population and household characteristics. • Work on simultaneous projects both autonomously and within teams. • Be a self-starter who continually develops knowledge and skills. Requirements: • Minimum of three years applied demographic research experience including 2 years of creating population and household estimates and projections for micro and macro geographies. • Applied experience using demography techniques such as survival models, stable population theory, trend extrapolation, cohort-component, non-parametric regression (linear and nonlinear models), logistic regression, and econometric models. • Strong working knowledge of U.S. Census, PUMS data, American Community Survey, Bureau of Labor Statistics data, and other economic and population data sources. • Outstanding quantitative analytical and demographic forecasting skills. Qualitative research experience is desirable. • Proven skills conducting lifestyle and customer segmentation research. • Hands-on experience using advanced transactional SQL on MS SQL Server 2005. Applied experience with SPSS, SAS, or other statistics software. • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Demography, Sociology, Psychology, Geography, or Economics is required along with courses in demography and statistics. Strong mathematics skills with the ability to turn abstract demographic relations into mathematical formulas. • Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel and proficient other Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Outlook, Word)
